I can finally say that I have a House of Non Pareil classic tshirt!
I’m proud to own such a creative piece for a number of reasons.
First and foremost, the label is the brainchild of four of my friends. I live with one of them and our place has been their so called headquarters for their meetings these past few months. They work hard and they deserve all the support they can get.
Secondly, the design is fresh, unique and meaningful. I love the ethnic visual element of it and I especially appreciate the fact that it’s strongly associated with the place we all identify with; where we come from; h o m e.
To those of you who aren’t Indonesian, the design takes inspiration from a mythological Balinese creature, Barong, also known as the King of Spirits. If and when you travel to Bali, you’ll find Barong costumes during traditional ceremonies and Barong designs all kinds of souvenirs. You can say it’s Bali’s mascot.
(There are two types of tourists in Bali: those who get the loose, silhouette-less Barong shirt or the ubiquitous sleeveless Barong tank)
I’ve just received my first HNP piece but I’m already looking forward to their next pieces. TBH their sketches lie around in the living room or the kitchen so I would take a peek every now and then to see what they’re up to.
Meanwhile, I’ve been receiving inquiries about HNP ever since I put my photoshoot with them on my Snapchat (@natashagan) and managed to sell some! If you want your own piece and rep your country, holla at me!
